DTH at a Glance: 2 Chainz, four teams

Good morning!

Sometimes, I stop and think about how long I've had Ben, my German shepherd mix. He's been in my life longer than any other boy — hell, when we brought him home from the shelter, I was straight.

We've been through a lot together. He's eaten several laptop chargers of mine. We graduated obedience school early together. He stands awkwardly and gives concerned looks from afar when he sees me cry — which is honestly my response to seeing people emotional, too.

In today's column, assistant opinion editor Emily Yue published a really cute ode to their Pekingese, Momo. And even though Momo and Ben low-key want to murder each other, it's still v relatable.

QUICK HITS

  • Calavera in Carrboro is officially #rebranding as "Esperanza" after a split in ownership with the Raleigh location. The new sign is set to go up on Wednesday.
  • UNC students marched on Wendy's in the Student Union yesterday to support farmworkers' rights and protest the company's refusal to join the Fair Food Program.
  • The scramble for UNC students to make it to Phoenix for the Final Four is on — especially for the ambitious youngsters who are trying to rent an entire charter bus.

IN DAILY CRIME

Someone was reported for fraud for falsely trying to tell Caribou Coffee they were being audited. It was, presumably, the Starbucks mermaid wearing a fake mustache.

IN CONFLICTING PLANS

Someone please hang out with 2 Chainz on Saturday. His performance for Jubilee is scheduled to overlap with UNC's Final Four game against Oregon. Sorry, buddy :/

IN FILM REVIEWS

In case you, too, aren't tired of watching Facebook videos of Luke Maye's buzzer beater: Our sports desk wrote an in-depth breakdown of the play, from glorious start to glorious finish.

IN CONNECTIONS

Thanks to some hardcore digging and investigative reporting, we managed to sit down with Luke Maye's high school basketball coach — and by that, I mean he's actually the brother of Erica, our newsroom adviser. So that was sort of convenient.

IN OUR OPINION

Don't forget to celebrate International Trans Day of Visibility this Friday. The LGBTQ Center is hosting a celebratory event in The Pit on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
