DTH at a Glance: My dog can't run

I have a wonderful dog named Annie. She's a black lab, and 11 years young. She's perpetually anxious, a little blind and so, so, so, sweet.

She can't swim and never has. She can't really run, will stop you when she doesn't want to walk anymore and loves to sunbathe.

She's a queen and I don't deserve her. No one does. I've thankful every single day we've had her in our family — including the time she ate my favorite skirt and specifically excluding the time she threw up on my shirt.

I'm thankful for her, and for the pets that were rescued from shelters during Hurricane Florence, highlighted in this story by Jamey Cross today.

The one where we get you up to date

Cassandra Canady is working to help residents in Kinston, N.C., who were hurt by Hurricane Florence, despite the roof of her home falling in from the storm. Her, along with other volunteers (including UNC students), are helping get others back on their feet.

Student financial aid is revoked after being charged with a single drug conviction. See how this, and other offenses, affect students FAFSA eligibility, in this story.

On Friday, Chapel Hill Major Pam Hemminger and the entire Chapel Hill Town Council sent a letter to UNC officials, supporting the relocation of Silent Sam. This comes a little more than a month after the monument was toppled, and the group said they hope this will help influence Chancellor Folt's plan for the statue that she'll present to the Board of Directors on Nov. 15.

The one where UNC won this weekend

On Saturday, UNC beat Pittsburgh in its first football win on the season. In the third quarter, UNC football found its bite and surged ahead to win the game.

Antonio Williams led the Tar Heels three-headed rushing attack. In the process, the junior transfer produced the team's first 100-yard rushing game since November 2017.

Things to do

Make late night plans. Each Friday, the Chelsea Theatre will play a music-related film at 9:45 for a new film series called Friday Music Mojo.
