Junior Kirk Urso finished what he started in the North Carolina men’s soccer team’s exhibition match against UNC-Greensboro Saturday night.
Two of UNC’s three goals in the 3-0 victory came from Urso, who connected on his first shot of the night three minutes into the game and once again in the 83rd minute to solidify the final score. Urso’s two goals totaled half of his entire final stat line from the 2009 season, when he found the back of the net four times for UNC.
Freshman Bruno Castro of Costa Rica rounded out the Tar Heels’ offense, scoring the second goal of the evening off one of Alex Dixon’s two assists before the end of the first half.
North Carolina was forced to play a man down for the entire second half when Stephen McCarthy received his second yellow card in the 43rd minute. The defense was led by goalie Scott Goodwin, who protected the net for five saves to shut out the Spartans.
The Tar Heels will play their final exhibition game Monday night against the Carolina Railhawks at 7 p.m. before the team’s regular season kicks off on Friday in an NCAA College Cup semifinals rematch against Akron.
