The top women’s soccer teams in the nation, No. 1 UNC and No.2 Stanford, faced off in a competitive game on Fetzer field. At the end of the first half, Stanford leads 1-0.
At the start of the match, Stanford made it apparent they would control the midfield, winning balls out of the air and passing across the field.
The Tar Heels shot on Stanford almost every time the offense gained possession, starting in the second minute of the game when UNC freshman Alyssa Rich fired a shot just wide of the net.
UNC leads in shots 5-3 at the half, but Stanford’s Christen Press is keeping up the offensive pressure with one shot and one goal. Numerous fouls and a packed stadium add to the fiery play and intense atmosphere of the matchup.
