Former North Carolina football coach Butch Davis posted a YouTube video Monday defending himself on issues related to the NCAA investigation into the UNC football program.
Davis begins his more than nine-minute message by saying he feels like it is finally appropriate to set the record straight on misinformation because the NCAA hearing has already taken place.
In the video Davis talks about his commitment to ethics and discusses his tenure at the University of Miami, during which Davis claims he “completely changed the environment, the culture, and the perception of the Miami program” after it had received NCAA sanctions.
Davis goes on to discuss the Blue Zone, 395 parking tickets accumulated by members of the UNC football program, former UNC tutor Jennifer Wiley and former associate head football coach John Blake.
“Did I know (John Blake) had such a close relationship with a sports agent? No,” Davis says in the clip. “Should I have known? I wish I had known.”
Davis concludes his message by talking about his departure from the University, a move which, Davis says, came completely at the hands of Chancellor Holden Thorp.
“I believe the decision to end my tenure at Carolina was the Chancellor’s alone,” Davis says. “While I agree that the Chancellor was within his rights to do so, I have said that I do not agree with his decision.”
