The North Carolina men’s soccer team is trailing 1-0 to Coastal Carolina at halftime of Sunday’s second round match.
This is only the second time the Tar Heels have trailed at halftime this season.
The nation’ps leading scorer Ashton Bennett netted his 23rd goal of the season as he slide behind the UNC defense and recieved a pass from Pedro Ribeiro. The goal came in the 41st minute after the Tar Heels had been threatening at the other end.
Both teams took 10 shots in the first 45 minutes but half of UNC’s shots were on frame and only two of the Chanicleers’ shots were on goal. The first half was fairly physical with 22 combined fouls and two cards.
Both cards were yellow and issued to Coastal Carolina, as Luis Faz and Justin Portillo both received cards. Mikey Lopez has also been warned a couple of time by the official to cool it down.
The last time these two teams played each other was in the NCAA tournament in 2003 and the Chanticleers won that matchup 3-0 in Chapel Hill.
