The North Carolina men’s soccer team is locked in a tight matchup with the 16 seed Indiana in the third round of the NCAA tournament.
The Hoosiers outshot the Tar Heels 9-7 but none of Indiana’s shots were on frame. UNC has forced goalkeeper Luis Soffner to make three saves to keep the game scoreless at the half.
Billy Schuler had the Tar Heels best look of the half when Ben Speas corralled a long ball and hit Schuler on the right side of the box. Schuler tried to go left but Soffner made a nice diving save.
Captain Kirk Urso has taken five shots, but three of them were rather ambitious efforts from 30 plus yards and never fretted Soffner.
UNC hasn’t looked too sharp with possession in the midfield, especially early on in the half. Enzo Martinez has had an unexpected amount of bad touches and turnovers.
The Tar Heel offense looked a bit smoother as the half wound down and UNC started extending their possession to both sides of the field.
