The North Carolina men’s soccer team will host the Chanticleers from Coastal Carolina Sunday at 5 p.m. at Fetzer Field.
The match-up will be UNC’s first game of the NCAA tournament as their top overall seed earned them a bye in the first round. Coastal Carolina, ranked 17th in the most recent coaches poll, beat Elon 4-3 on Thursday night to earn the right to come to Chapel Hill for Sunday’s contest.
Ashton Bennett, Coastal Carolina’s leading scorer, netted the game winner in the 83rd minute. The goal was Bennett’s 22nd of the year making him the leading goal scorer in the nation.
In Sunday’s match, Bennett and the Chanticleers will face one of the toughest defenses in the country as the Tar Heels allow only .65 goals per game — thats the 11th best average in the nation. Also, Scott Goodwin comes in with an ACC best seven shutouts this season.
The winner of Sunday’s game will play Indiana after the Hoosiers beat Old Dominion in the first round. If UNC wins, that game will be at Fetzer Field, if not Coastal Carolina would travel to Indiana.
