To beat No. 1 Kentucky at Rupp Arena Saturday in Lexington, the No. 5 Tar Heels are going to need all the help they can get.
But after sustaining a wrist injury in North Carolina’s 60-57 win against Wisconsin on Wednesday night, freshman guard P.J. Hairston might have to sit out of arguably the biggest game of the regular season.
According to a press release from the team’s spokesman Thursday, Hairston suffered a left wrist sprain and bone contusion while attempting to draw a charge. The press release said that Hairston is questionable for Saturday’s game.
Hairston, a 6-foot-5 McDonald’s All-American, leads UNC in 3-pointers so far this season with 14.
Officially, it’s possible that Hairston could play Saturday. But according to the guard himself, he’ll be watching his team take on the Wildcats from the bench.
“Sorry to say but I will not be playing Saturday!” he tweeted Thursday morning.
