In the NCAA quarterfinal, the North Carolina men’s soccer team is locked in a scoreless tie at halftime.
North Carolina had a couple of dangerous possessions but have come up just a touch short each time. UNC outshot the Gaels 4-3 but SMC keeper Doug Herrick hasn’t been forced to make a save yet.
Goodwin on the other hand, made a difficult save in traffic in the closing moments of the half. Herrick came out to take a free kick from 65 yards out and put it right on frame. Goodwin leaped to push the shot just over the bar.
UNC has controlled most of the possession and has earned three corners so far compared to just two for St. Mary’s. St. Mary’s has been whistled for five fouls while UNC has been called for three.
Tonight’s winner earns the right to play in the College Cup next weekend in Hoover, Ala.
