The top-seeded North Carolina men’s soccer team trails 1-0 at the half of the College Cup semifinal match against UCLA.
Though not completely unfamiliar to the Tar Heels, it’s been over two weeks since they’ve trailed at halftime.
Scoring opened up when UCLA’s Ryan Hollingshead, a junior forward from Granite Bay, Calif., sent a rocket of a shot to beat Scott Goodwin from 30 yards out after a quick down-the-field march by the Bruins.
After the goal, the Tar Heels seemed to find their rhythm, taking a total of 8 shots in the first 45 minutes at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala. UCLA got off only five in the half.
In the final moments of the half, both Billy Schuler and Ben Speas rattled the frame behind Bruin keeper Brian Rowe but could not find the net.
UNC has gone 7-2-1 this season after heading into the locker room down by one tally.
