The No. 8 North Carolina men’s soccer team played its eigth consecutive period without scoring a goal in the first half against ACC opponent Virginia.
The Tar Heels and Cavaliers each took four shots and put three on goal but were turned away on each chance.
UNC forward Andy Craven returned to action in the 27th minute after sitting out the second half against Wake Forest due to injury and quickly announced his presence with a leaping shot that sailed over the crossbar on a corner from Martin Murphy.
Virginia tested the Tar Heel defense in the 33rd minute when a Scott Thomsen corner found the head of Matt Brown, but UNC goalkeeper Scott Goodwin was there to make the save.
Brown added another shot on the rebound of Goodwin’s save, but UNC’s defense deflected the shot and sent it out of bounds.
