Welcome to another edition of Tracking the Tar Heels.

Here’s what the Tar Heels have been up to:

  • The field hockey team will rekindle an old rivalry with Maryland this Saturday, Assistant Sports Editor Brooke Pryor writes. The team that wins the game will walk away with the regular season ACC title.
  • Minnesota announced its cancellation of a home-and-home football series with UNC, Melvin Backman writes.
  • Coach Sylvia Hatchell and the women’s basketball team haven’t forgotten about missing the NCAA tournament last season. They’re using that as motivation, writes Harold Gutmann and Steve Wiseman of the Durham Herald-Sun.
  • Duke defensive lineman Kenny Anunike said the Blue Devils know how to stop Giovani Bernard and the UNC football team, writes Laura Keely of the (Raleigh) News & Observer.
  • With Jacob Stallings now in the minor leagues, UNC’s Matt Roberts is looking to step up as the starting catcher on the baseball team.
