North Carolina leads Georgia Tech 29-28 at the break.
Following a Giovani Bernard 3rd down run, A.J. Blue ran the ball into the end zone from five yards out to score the final points of the half. On the extra point attempt, Tommy Hibbard passed the ball off to Jack Tabb for a two-point conversion. The conversion pushed UNC past the Yellow Jackets for a one-point lead going into the break.
The touchdown was Blue’s second of the afternoon after he scored midway through the first quarter.
Bernard scored the first touchdown of the day on UNC’s first series of the game. He ran it in from four yards out to score with 13:39 left in the first quarter.
But UNC’s lead wouldn’t last long as the Yellow Jackets scored two minutes later.
Quarterback and Durham native, Vad Lee leads Georgia Tech’s offense with two rushing touchdowns. He’s completed two of five passing attempts, good for 82 yards. His biggest throw was a 63 yard pass to Darren Waller. The pass put Georgia Tech knocking on the door step of a touchdown. Vad Lee scored on the ensuing possessions.
So far, both UNC and Georgia Tech have converted four of six third downs. Georgia Tech has scored all three times its been in the red zone.
Giovani Bernard broke 1,000 yards in the first half. He has 1,004 for the season, becoming the first Tar Heel since Natrone Means in 1991 and 1992 to have back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons.
