After nearly thirty minutes of a scoreless game, the Tar Heels broke through Maryland’s stifling defense to score the first goal of the ACC field hockey championship.
Sophomore forward Loren Shealy was positioned by the left post of the goal and received a Maryland defender’s tipped ball from senior forward Charlotte Craddock’s cross pass. She got the ball and guided it across the goal line on a short goal.
Then, six minutes later, Kolojejchick scored right from right in front of the goal. She took an initial shot that hit the post and rebounded back in her direction. Kolojejchick controlled her rebound and sent the ball into the cage.
The Tar Heels out-shot Maryland 10-4 in the first half, while both teams earned three penalty corners. Maryland’s goal keeper, Natalie Hunter, made four saves while UNC’s Sassi Ammer had two.
