Halftime Update: UNC women's basketball leads Davidson 33-24

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively in the opening round matchup of the 2012 preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

Following four ties and three lead changes, the Wildcats put together a 7-2 run, scoring in three straight possessions.

After taking time to regroup in a timeout, the Tar Heels answered the Wildcats with a run themselves. UNC scored six straight baskets led by half court defensive pressure applied by sophomore guards Latifah Coleman and Danielle Butts.

Freshman Xylina McDaniel led the Tar Heels with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Senior Waltiea Rolle also contributed 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

Despite shooting a modest 40.5% from the field (15-37) including 0-4 from beyond the arc, UNC has forced 16 Davidson turnovers and looks to continue to apply defensive pressure to maintain the lead.
