Welcome to this semester’s first edition of Behind Enemy Lines. We’re a little late posting today, but that has a lot to do with our first story:
- We’re going to go ahead and use Notre Dame’s future quasi-membership in the ACC as an excuse to post this. Manti Te’o‘s girlfriend, the one whose death in part contributed to his ascendency as a Heisman candidate, apparently never existed. A statement released in the past hour by Notre Dame paints Te’o as the victim of a hoax. We at the sports desk are positively losing our minds over this story.
- Ryan Kelly and Seth Curry both sustained injuries last week. Curry is expected to play again immediately after spraining his ankle against N.C. State, but Kelly’s injury could keep him out for as many as four weeks.
- These injuries didn’t exactly hurt N.C. State’s chances against the Blue Devils, either. The Wolfpack handed Duke its first loss of the season on Saturday in PNC arena. N.C. State fans, including this man in a wheelchair, rushed the court.
- After a season of regression, vaunted Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas, thought to be one of the ACC’s best prospects, will not declare for the NFL draft after this season.
- Miami and Maryland played a mind-numbingly boring game of basketball Sunday. At halftime, the score was 19-14. Maryland shot 21 percent in the first half. With 5:41 to go in the game, Miami led 37-29. The Hurricanes eventually pulled it out by a 54-47 margin.
