Welcome to another edition of Tracking the Tar Heels.
Here’s what the Tar Heels have been up to:
- A strong, run-and-gun first half led the UNC men’s basketball team to a victory against Maryland on Saturday, David Adler writes.
- Assistant Sports Editor Brooke Pryor writes that UNC’s win was due in large part to junior guard Reggie Bullock’s 21-point first half performance.
- Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post writes that Maryland had no answer for Bullock, who was named ACC Player of the Week on Monday after scoring a career-high 24 points against the Terrapins.
- UNC wrestlers failed to meet expectations in two dual meets against ranked opponents, Andrew Romaine writes.
- Robbie Harms writes that, despite the team’s struggles, freshman wrestler Nathan Kraisser has started his career at UNC dominantly after improving his dual meet record to 8-0 this weekend.
- The North Carolina track and field team opened the 2013 indoor season at home this past weekend, Lindsey Masi writes.
- Madison Way writes that UNC’s distance runners took the top spots at the Dick Taylor Invitational.
- The UNC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lost to Virginia, the reigning ACC Champions, in UNC’s first ACC dual meet of the season on Saturday, Haley Rhyne writes.
- Wesley Lima writes that sophomore Esben Hess-Olesen led the UNC men’s tennis team to a 2-0 start to the season on Saturday.
- And last but certainly not least, the UNC men’s basketball team received a commitment from point guard Joel Berry on Monday. Berry is ranked the No. 3 point guard and No. 12 overall player in his Class of 2014, junior class.
