The first half of Friday night’s matchup between the No. 5 North Carolina women’s lacrosse team and defending national champion Northwestern was one all too familiar for the Tar Heels.
Just as it has done in its three previous games this season, UNC got off to a fast start offensively, scoring seven goals in the opening 14 minutes of the game.
Although it failed to net another goal, UNC leads Northwestern 7-4 at the half.
Heading into the game, Northwestern boasted a balanced offensive attack as seven Wildcat players had recorded three or more goals on the season.
UNC, however, has beaten Northwestern at its own game. Five Tar Heels have recorded goals, led by two apiece from midfielders Sammy Jo Tracy and Taylor George.
Midfielder Emily Garrity recorded two assists and now has seven on the season.
After going scoreless for nearly 13 minutes, the Wildcats finished the half with three unanswered goals.
