GREENSBORO – The North Carolina women’s basketball team picked up right where they left off against Maryland.
UNC jumped out to a 16-10 lead with seven points from yesterday’s star Latifah Coleman.
But then Duke runs of 11-0 and 14-2 left UNC in much the same place it was yesterday – trailing significantly at halftime.
UNC pulled off the second largest comeback in ACC tournament history in the semifinals, but to win its 10th ACC title the Tar Heels will have to outdo themselves and overcome a 15-point margin.
Senior center Waltiea Rolle led the Tar Heels in the first half with 10 points – six of which came through making all six of her three point attempts.
Rolle was the only UNC player to score in the last 12:30 of the first half.
UNC shot 28.6 percent in the first half. Duke made 50 percent of its shots.
Senior point guard Tierra Ruffin-Pratt took a seat early, picking up two fouls in the first two minutes. She was held scoreless in 10 minutes of play.
Duke forward Elizabeth Williams led all scorers with 11 points, which could have been more if not for a few misses form close range.
Duke outrebounded UNC 20-11 in the first half.
