Five-star recruit Theo Pinson out of High Point, N.C., made his college decision Wednesday, choosing the Tar Heels over Georgetown, Indiana and Louisville. He also received interest from Duke and NC State, among other schools.
He made the decision at his school, Wesleyan Christian Academy, in front of family and friends.
Pinson is a long, athletic guard who excels in transition and defense. The 6-foot-6 wing guard will join a 2014 class that already has commitments from five-stars, point guard Joel Berry and wing forward Justin Jackson.
In choosing UNC, Pinson turned down Indiana, the team considered to be the biggest threat to the Tar Heels in recruiting the young talent. Pinson took his only official visit so far to Bloomington in January.
In recent years, UNC and Indiana have gone head-to-head for several recruits. Two years ago, Cody Zeller decided to stay at home and play for the Hoosiers.
That same reason helped give UNC the edge with Pinson. The allure of staying close to home and having friends and family be able to watch him play assist the Tar Heels in eliciting the commitment.
