Five-star high school forward Andrew Wiggins has chosen to play basketball at Kansas, according to Grant Traylor, reporter for The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington, W. Va.
Wiggins, a senior at Huntington Prep, is widely considered the best basketball prospect in the country. He reportedly narrowed his list of schools to Florida State, North Carolina, Kentucky and Kansas before committing to the Jayhawks at a private ceremony at his school. Traylor was the only reporter in attendance.
Florida State had long been rumored to be the frontrunner for the McDonald’s All-American, whose father, Mitchell Wiggins, played basketball for the Seminoles and whose mother, Marita Payne-Wiggins, ran track at Florida State. In addition, Wiggins’ friend and Huntington Prep teammate Xavier Rathan-Mayes has already signed to play for the Seminoles.
If Wiggins had committed to UNC, he would have joined a 2013 class that includes power forward Isaiah Hicks, center Kennedy Meeks and point guard Nate Britt — a class ranked 13th in the nation by Rivals.com.
