North Carolina leads Georgia Tech 20-14 at the end of the first half of a rainy football game in Atlanta.
UNC scored on the first drive of the game on a four-yard run from sophomore Romar Morris. Quarterback Bryn Renner led the charged down the field, completing three of four passes in the opening drive. UNC attempted a two-point conversion but failed.
The Tar Heels scored again late in the first quarter on a 19-yard pass from Renner to tight end Eric Ebron for Ebron’s first touchdown of the season.
Through the first half, Ebron has 95 yards on five catches.
The Yellow Jackets didn’t score until a few minutes into the second quarter. UNC safety Tre Boston knocked the ball out of running back David Sims’ hands as he crossed the line, but after review, the initial touchdown call was confirmed.
Each team scored another touchdown before the end of the second half.
Renner completed 10 of 20 attempts for 178 yards and two touchdowns while Georgia Tech quarterback Vad Lee threw for 82 yards, completing five of nine attempts and scoring one touchdown.
UNC converted six of nine third downs, and Georgia Tech converted six of 12. UNC has 257 yards of total offense and the Yellow Jackets amassed 194.
Georgia Tech ended the half scoring a touchdown with 30 seconds left until the break and will receive the ball to open the second half.
