Undefeated North Carolina trails Notre Dame at halftime at Fetzer Field by a score of 1-0. Notre Dame freshman Morgan Andrews was able to beat UNC goalkeeper Bryane Heaberlin on a header in the 22nd minute.
The Tar Heels outshot Notre Dame 7-2, but were only able to get two shots on goal.
UNC lost starting midfielder Amber Munerlyn to an injury less than 60 seconds into the game, and she hasn’t returned to the game. The Tar Heels have utilized their depth by playing 20 players in the first half of the game.
Senior Crystal Dunn and the rest of the Tar Heel offense has been neutralized due mostly to Notre Dame’s physical defense. UNC’s best chance to score thus far in the game came on a free kick from just outside the box in the 31st minute. But forward Joanna Boyles sent the shot just a tad too high.
