The No. 2 North Carolina Tar Heels field hockey team’s offensive was sluggish late in the first half, but eventually picked up as it has a 3-0 lead over Longwood.
In the beginning of the first half, neither team was experiencing much offensive success. UNC did not score its first goal until sophomore Nina Nortman found the back of the cage off of a penalty corner with 8:41 left.
In the last two minutes, of the half the Tar Heels began to find consistency and momentum. Junior Samantha Travers scored UNC’s second goal of the game and was assisted by sophomore Emily Wold.
Only a minute later, Nortman came back with her second goal of the game, to put the Tar Heels put 3-0.
In total, the Tar heels have had 11 shots on goal and four penalty shots. UNC’s goalkeeper, junior Sassi Ammer, has two saves.
Longwood’s offensive production has been nonexistent as well. The team has only mustered 4 shots on goal with 3 penalty corners. Longwood’s goalkeeper, senior Kaye Goulding has saved three shots.
