North Carolina’s offense has had its way with Old Dominion’s secondary in the first half, holding a 49-13 lead heading into halftime. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Marquise Williams is having a career day so far, already setting new career highs with 379 passing yards and 5 passing touchdowns.
Williams also set a new school record for passing yards in one half, beating the previous record of 296.
Freshman Ryan Switzer was the recipient of two of Williams’ touchdown passes, and has tallied 111 receiving yards as well.
Sophomore Quinshad Davis added 124 receiving yards of his own, getting most of them on a 56-yard touchdown pass from Williams on UNC’s second play of the game.
Freshman T.J. Logan has added 54 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to balance out the offense. The two touchdowns are his second and third on the season.
UNC’s defense has been equally impressive, holding Taylor Heinicke to only 126 yards in the first half. He currently has more punting yards than passing yards, tallying 226 with his foot.
It hasn’t been all perfect for the Tar Heels, as some special teams mishaps have hurt UNC. ODU scored after a muffed punt by senior Tre Boston, and recovered an onside kick early in the game.
Aside from those two early mistakes, UNC has looked dominant in every phase of the game in the first half.
