Despite getting off to a rough start shooting in the opening minutes of the game, the North Carolina men’s basketball team headed into the locker room with a 44-14 lead against UNC-Greensboro, ending the first half on a 20-1 run.
After connecting on just three of its first 10 shots, UNC settled in and dominated the Spartans on offense. The Tar Heels shot 17-for-36 from the field, led by a 12-point performance from sophomore guard Marcus Paige, who leads all scorers.
UNC also got a spark from two of its big men off the bench. Freshman forward Kennedy Meeks scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds while sophomore forward Brice Johnson chipped in eight points of his own.
The Tar Heels hold a 24-17 advantage in rebounds, including a 11-4 margin on the offensive glass.
UNC quickly found a defensive rhythm and held strong throughout the rest of the first half as the Spartans ended the first 20 minutes of play on an 8:22 scoring drought.
