At the half, the North Carolina men’s basketball team leads Clemson 37-21.
The Tigers arrived to North Carolina looking to snap a 56-game losing streak in Chapel Hill, but a balanced, composed first-half performance from the Tar Heels has hindered those efforts.
UNC’s five starters all scored within the opening four minutes of the game, and North Carolina has eight different players on the board.
Though Clemson’s K.J. McDaniels leads all scorers with 11 points, he is the only Tiger with more than three points. Meanwhile, junior forward James Michael McAdoo has nine for the Tar Heels, Kennedy Meeks and Leslie McDonald each have seven, and Nate Britt has five.
Behind scrappy, tenacious defense and the high-speed tempo that coach Roy Williams teaches, UNC has controlled the pace of the game, dishing out nine assists compared to Clemson’s one.
UNC led 31-16 with roughly four minutes remaining in the half for the team’s largest lead against a conference opponent all season, and open the second half with a 16-point advantage.
