Welcome to another edition of Tracking the Tar Heels.
Let’s see what the Tar Heels have been up to:
- Assistant Sports Editor Daniel Wilco writes about the North Carolina women’s basketball team and Diamond DeShields sending N.C. State packing. DeShields finished with a game-leading 21 points.
- Xylina McDaniel was another reason UNC was able to take down the Wolfpack, bringing optimism and enthusiasm to the team when they needed it most, writes Dylan Howlett.
- Sports Editor Michael Lannana writes about UNC football players transitioning from college to the NFL.
- Andrew Carter of the (Raleigh) News & Observer writes that P.J. Hairston is no longer enrolled as a full-time student at UNC.
- Aaron Dodson put up the Jan. 9 edition of InstaHeels, where we take a look at UNC student-athletes’ best pictures on Instagram.
- GoHeels.com writer Adam Lucas looks back at UNC’s previous seven meetings with Syracuse. The two men’s basketball teams will face each other again tomorrow at 12 p.m. and the game can be seen on ESPN.
- Fellow GoHeels.com writer Robbi Pickerall writes about a new face on UNC’s bench in the Dean Dome: Doug Halverson. Halverson is the new head athletic trainer for UNC’s men’s basketball teams and easily identifiable by his signature sweater vests.
- ESPN writers Andy Katz and C.L. Brown agree that UNC’s chances to pull off an upset against No. 2 Syracuse depend on the performance of Marcus Paige.
