CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — North Carolina trails Virginia 38-29 at halftime.
The Tar Heels and Cavaliers traded leads for much of the half, but UVa. closed on a 12-2 run to pull ahead.
Joe Harris leads UVa with 11 points and made three 3-pointers to open the game. The Cavaliers have made five of 11 shots from behind the arc while UNC is struggling, making only two of eight attempts.
Leslie McDonald and James Michael McAdoo lead UNC with seven points. Despite a double team, Kennedy Meeks is proving to be UNC’s primary interior threat. The freshman has four points and leads UNC in rebounds with four. He also recorded one block and committed one turnover.
Sophomore J.P. Tokoto struggled in the first half, committing three turnovers and hitting only one of four shot attempts.
The Tar Heels are shooting only 39.4 percent from the floor while UVa is shooting 51.9 percent.
UNC only attempted three free throws in the first half, all from McAdoo. The junior made only one. UVa made five of eight free throws.
The Tar Heels are 0-6 when losing at halftime this season.
