No. 17 North Carolina took an early lead against No. 3 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium Monday night and hasn’t let go yet. The Tar Heels lead the Blue Devils 45-36 at halftime.
As has been typical for UNC this season, Diamond DeShields and Xylina McDaniel have paved the way for their team. The duo is responsible for 27 of UNC’s 45 points, McDaniel with 12 and DeShields with 15.
McDaniel had seven of UNC’s first 10 points in the contest. The Tar Heels have shot 54% from the field and 47% from beyond the arc compared to Duke’s 44% from the field and 20% from downtown.
The contest has been relatively calm — UNC has yet to make it to the free throw line and Duke is one for three.
DeShields has only played 10 minutes in the half after picking up her second foul fewer than five minutes into the game.
