At halftime in the Dean E. Smith Center, the North Carolina men’s basketball team leads Maryland 39-27.
The matchup is the last in the regular season between the two teams as ACC foes. The Terrapins will move to the Big Ten conference at the end of the season.
The Tar Heels started the game on a 12-0 run that forced a Maryland timeout and extended their lead to as much as 16 in the opening five minutes of the first half.
But the Terrapins clawed back, cutting UNC’s lead to as few as three points on multiple possessions.
Six Tar Heels have scored. Junior forward James Michael McAdoo leads all scorers with nine points and sophomore forward Brice Johnson has added eight points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting off the bench.
Through hustle plays and physical defense, UNC got back on track at the end of the half, holding Maryland to no field goals in the final 6:25 of the period.
