SAN ANTONIO — Sixth-seeded North Carolina leads No. 11 seed Providence 39-36 at halftime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
It's been an up-tempo game for both sides, with each team finding shooting success early. UNC is shooting 45 percent from the field; Providence, 52 percent.
For UNC, the half was punctuated by a steal, breakaway, spin move and dunk by sophomore forward J.P. Tokoto, which gave the Tar Heels a 37-30 lead with 3:42 to play.
Providence point guard Bryce Cotton, the Friars' leading scorer with 21.4 points per game, leads all scorers with 13 points. James Michael McAdoo and Kennedy Meeks both have eight points to pace the Tar Heels.
UNC is out-rebounding the Friars 20-14, with a 9-3 advantage on the offensive boards.
