UNC leads Belmont Abbey 57-13

In the North Carolina men’s basketball team’s final exhibition game before the regular season, the Tar Heels raced out to a 57-13 lead over the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at the half.

The Tar Heels managed to shoot 63.4 percent from the field in the first half on 26-of-41 shooting, while limiting the Crusaders to 19.2 percent shooting on 5-of-26 shooting.

Freshman forward Justin Jackson, who started for the second consecutive game, and sophomore forward Kennedy Meeks lead all scorers with 10 points apiece.

After scoring five of UNC’s first seven points, junior guard Marcus Paige exited the game briefly at the 16:27 mark after drawing a charge. The medical staff checked his lip for bleeding, but he returned to the game shortly after.

The Tar Heels dominated the Crusaders in the post for nearly the entirety of the first half — scoring 46 points in the paint. UNC also forced 17 turnovers in the first half and scored 23 points off of them.

Out of the 13 UNC players who have entered the game, all have scored except for freshman guard Joel Berry and sophomore guard Stilman White.
