The North Carolina softball team was given an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament Sunday, placing them in the Athens, Ga. regional alongside Georgia, Western Kentucky and Central Connecticut State.
The Tar Heels will begin the regional against Western Kentucky Friday. The regional is double-elimination, with the regional winner advancing to a super regional for a best-of-three series from May 21-24. The teams that move on from the super regional will advance to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. May 28-June 3.
UNC defeated the host-team in its regional, Georgia, earlier this year in a 15-9 upset win.
The Tar Heels finished the regular season as the No. 2 seed in the ACC, but eventually lost to Pittsburgh 4-0 in the ACC Tournament semifinals.
