Hours before the North Carolina women's soccer team found out its fate in regards to the NCAA Tournament, the team got a case of bad news.
Junior midfielders Joanna Boyles and Cameron Castleberry went down with knee injuries in practice on Monday, and both were diagnosed with season-ending ACL tears. Boyles and Castleberry have played in every game this season for the Tar Heels and have been on the pitch for over 1,000 minutes apiece.
Earlier in the season, the Tar Heels lost two other midfielders in first-year Dorian Bailey and junior Darcy McFarlane, which makes the latest injury news even worse.
UNC will host Big South conference champion Liberty in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Fetzer Field.
