Entering Monday night's game against Appalachian State, North Carolina Brice Johnson was on a torrid scoring pace. The senior had set new career highs in back-to-back games against Tulane and UCLA with 25 and 27 points.
Johnson continued that the first four minutes of the game, scoring 10 of UNC's first 15 points and tying a UNC record for consecutive made field goals with 16. Johnson finished the half with 14 points and the Tar Heels exited the first half with a 49-38 lead, looking to break the century-mark for the first time this season.
Sophomore guard Joel Berry and junior forward Isaiah Hicks each had nine points for the Tar Heels, while Berry also contributed five assists. Senior guard Marcus Paige left the game briefly with a jammed right ankle, but returned to notch four points, a block and an assist, which made him the 12th Tar Heel to record 500 career assists.
