UNC receives $27 million from ACC

North Carolina received nearly $27 million from the Atlantic Coast Conference office during the 2014-15 fiscal year, an increase of $10 million from what the school received during the 2012-13 season, according the (Raleigh) News and Observer.

UNC, N.C. State and Duke all received roughly the same amount of money, which marks a record amount for the schools, according to Andrew Carter of the N&O.

North Carolina and all ACC member schools are benefiting from a growth in revenue across the board in college athletics. All ACC schools roughly received the same amount of revenue, save for part-time member Notre Dame, according to Andrew Carter of the N&O.

The revenue received by both the ACC and the individual schools continues to increase due to rising revenue from the sale of television rights. ESPN paid the ACC $146.6 million for its broadcast rights in the 2012-13 season, a figure that jumped to $217.9 million in 2014-15 after the league added Notre Dame, according to Andrew Carter of the N&O.

Revenues from television networks continue to rise as more conferences start and grow their own television channels. The Big Ten, the SEC and the Pac-12 have all added their own channels or network of channels in the past few years. The ACC hasn’t debuted a channel yet, but could in the coming years.

If the ACC debuts that T.V. network in the coming years, expect revenues to keep rising.
