No. 3 UNC trails UConn 1-0 at half

NORFOLK – After an offensively-lacking first half, the No. 3 North Carolina field hockey team trails Connecticut 1-0 in the semifinal game of the NCAA championship. UConn took the lead early after a penalty corner fewer than five minutes into the game.

North Carolina vs. South Florida Halftime Blog: UNC leads 1-0

During practices leading up to the first round of the NCAA tournament, coach Carlos Somoano had his team practice penalty kicks just in case the game ended in another draw. However, the Tar Heels showed early on that they wanted no part in a shootout with South Florida after freshman midfielder Omar Holness put the ball in the back of the net during the fourth minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead. The goal came on the first corner of the game and the first shot for the Tar Heels.


Women's basketball leads Coastal Carolina at the half

The North Carolina women’s basketball team leads Coastal Carolina 46-24 after the first half. The Tar Heels’ strong offensive performance stemmed from freshman guard Diamond DeShields who scored 16 points and had two assists.

No. 4 Tennessee leads No. 12 UNC 40-28 at half

The North Carolina women’s basketball team worked hard in the last seven minutes of the first half to counteract relatively sloppy play in the first 13 minutes, and cut a deficit that grew as far as 14 down to four before suffering a Tennessee run that put the Lady Vols up 40-28 at halftime.


UNC leads Virginia 21-0 at half

North Carolina football coach Larry Fedora said it was bound to happen, he just wasn’t sure when. With fewer than six minutes to play in the half, freshman Ryan Switzer was back to return yet another Virginia punt, but the ball slipped through his hands, and he scrambled to pick it back up again.


Own goals bury women's soccer

Senior Crystal Dunn watched her teammates take the field Friday night from a much different vantage point than her usual commanding position in the center of the field.
