Virginia Tech leads UNC 21-7 at halftime

BLACKSBURG, Va. — At the half, Virginia Tech leads North Carolina 21-7 in Blacksburg. North Carolina was nearly in a deeper hole going into the half when quarterback Marquise Williams, starting in place of injured quarterback Bryn Renner, threw an interception with less than three minutes left in the half.


No. 3 UNC v. No. 1 Maryland tied 0-0 at half

Top-ranked Maryland and No. 3 North Carolina are scoreless at halftime in the last ACC regular-season meeting between the two field hockey powerhouses. The Terrapins (10-0, 2-0 ACC) and Tar Heels (8-1, 1-1 ACC) largely used the opening 35 minutes to feel out the game’s cadence.


Game Recap: UNC men's soccer ties Duke 0-0

The No. 6 North Carolina men’s soccer team and Duke played to a scoreless tie Friday night at Fetzer Field — UNC’s fifth conference draw in as many games. The Tar Heels (3-1-5, 0-0-5 ACC) came out aggressively in the first half, creating a number of chances, but their efforts were never rewarded with a goal.

The No. 6 North Carolina men’s soccer team and the Duke Blue Devils, both looking for their first ACC win, are tied 0-0 after 45 minutes of play here at Fetzer Field.


2013 Fall World Series to start this weekend

Like Major League Baseball teams, the North Carolina baseball players are getting set for the World Series—the 2013 Fall World Series. While college baseball season is far from being underway, coach Mike Fox’s team has been hard at work through out the summer, mostly in the form of inter-squad scrimmages. All of that is culminating in two weekends of baseball, with teams hand picked by senior players starting on Friday at 6 p.m.

Welcome to another edition of Tracking the Tar Heels. Let’s see what the Tar Heels have been up to: The North Carolina football team turned to the film of its 55-31 loss to East Carolina Saturday to find answers to the team’s problems.

After being taken down in the fourth quarter of the North Carolina football team’s 55-31 loss to East Carolina Saturday, senior quarterback Bryn Renner grabbed his foot in pain. Despite noticeably limping on the field in the next few plays, he remained in the game, finishing the afternoon with a career high 366 passing yards and passing former quarterback T.J.

What you missed: UNC volleyball sweeps Notre Dame, remains undefeated

The streaking, 13-0, No. 14 North Carolina volleyball team kept right on rolling Friday night, sweeping Notre Dame in three straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-22) for the second time this year. Strong serving behind a season-high 13 aces led the Tar Heels to victory despite a jostled offense early on.


Tar Heels trail ECU 28-10 after first half, plagued by penalties

In the first half of the North Carolina football team’s matchup with East Carolina at Kenan Stadium, it was the team from Greenville that played by the Tar Heels’ motto — Smart, Fast and Physical. The Pirates have 311 total yards of offense, led by a four touchdown performance from quarterback Shane Carden, and lead UNC 28-10 at half time.


No. 13 Duke hands No. 1 UNC first loss of the season

The No. 1 North Carolina field hockey team clung to an undefeated record for 99 minutes Friday night, but a final shootout goal from Duke’s Paula Heimbach handed UNC its first loss of the season. North Carolina made four of its five stroke-off shots, the lone miss coming from senior Rachel Magerman.

The No. 1 North Carolina field hockey team leads #13 Duke 2-1 at halftime. The Tar Heels have outshot their rivals from down the road 14 to five, and 12 of those shots have been on goal.
