Tar Heel baseball dugout inspires extra-inning rally

Starting pitcher Benton Moss was taken out of the North Carolina baseball team’s 14-inning affair with Clemson in the ACC tournament after five innings of work Friday night. But as far as he’s concerned, his actions in the dugout had everything to do with the outcome of the game and the five-run rally UNC pulled together in the top of the 14th.


Five-star basketball recruit Theo Pinson signs with UNC

Five-star recruit Theo Pinson out of High Point, N.C., made his college decision Wednesday, choosing the Tar Heels over Georgetown, Indiana and Louisville. He also received interest from Duke and NC State, among other schools. He made the decision at his school, Wesleyan Christian Academy, in front of family and friends.


UNC women's lacrosse rolling past UVA at halftime

At halftime of the North Carolina women’s lacrosse NCAA quarterfinal matchup against Virginia, the Tar Heels are having no problems finding the cage. With a 10-2 lead, the Tar Heels have scored on all 10 of their first half shots.


UNC Men's Lacrosse Notebook: Preparing for Playoffs

Despite being ranked No. 1 in both the USILA coaches’ poll and the Inside Lacrosse media poll, the North Carolina men’s lacrosse team received the fifth seed in the NCAA tournament. The Tar Heels will open their playoff run against No. 11 seeded Lehigh—a team that beat them in a one-goal game last year during the regular season.

Early this season, the North Carolina softball team won two out of three games in a series against Georgia Tech, but in Thursday night’s ACC tournament game, the Tar Heels didn’t have the luxury of getting three games to determine who was better — they had one.


UNC to take on Spartans in ACC-Big Ten Challenge

The schedule for the 2013 installment of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge was released Wednesday, and the North Carolina men’s Basketball team will face the Michigan State Spartans. The Tar Heels will make the trip up to East Lansing December 4th for the 15th annual challenge between the two power conferences.


UNC men's lacrosse leads Virginia 10-7 at halftime

In the first meeting between the No. 3 North Carolina men’s lacrosse team and Virginia the final score was 10-7 in favor of the Tar Heels. Today, in the ACC Championship game, the teams have reached the exact same score at halftime. Led by Davey Emala with a first-half hat trick, UNC has a three-goal lead going in to halftime. With four assists, senior captain Marcus Holman broke the UNC record for most points in a career with 205.


Emanuel wins battle with N.C. State's Turner

Trea Turner won round one. After the N.C. State shortstop walked to lead off the bottom of the first in Friday’s 7-1 North Carolina win, North Carolina pitcher Kent Emanuel threw over to first base three times to keep him honest.


UNC men's lacrosse leads Duke 13-6 at halftime

The No. 2 seed North Carolina men’s lacrosse team wasted no time jumping all over No. 3 seed Duke in the ACC semifinals at Kenan Stadium, leading the Blue Devils 13-6 by halftime. Two Tar Heels — Marcus Holman and Chad Tutton — recorded hat tricks in the first half and six other Tar Heels joined in on the scoring frenzy.
