More on freshman star Xylina McDaniel

Xylina McDaniel is not a typical college freshman. Most first-years have a tough time acclimating to academic rigors, finding a consistent circle of friends, and adjusting to life away from mom’s home cooking. While her opinion of dining hall cuisine remains unknown, McDaniel’s impact on the North Carolina women’s basketball team is abundantly clear – the freshman forward is a linchpin on a 19-2 team that has eyes on its first Final Four appearance since 2007.

Before the basketball season began, many hoops prognosticators had N.C. State pegged as the ACC’s top team. Dexter Strickland wasn’t one of them. “They talk those guys up every single year and we beat them every single year,” the North Carolina guard told reporters in October. “They are the least of our worries. Beat us one year and then they can talk smack. Until then, you can’t put them in the mix.” Now, the time has come for Strickland and his teammates to walk the walk.
