Welcome to another edition of Tracking the Tar Heels. Here’s what the Tar Heels have been up to: The North Carolina men’s soccer team remained undefeated at home, defending its home turf in a 2-0 win against Georgia Southern, Haley Rhyne writes.
After 37 scoreless minutes, the North Carolina Tar Heels struck for two goals in rapid succession to grab a two-goal lead at halftime against Georgia Southern. North Carolina scored its first goal in the 38th minute when junior forward Andy Craven drove home a rebound that had bounced off GSU goalkeeper Neal Bates’ chest. The Tar Heels added to their lead just two minutes later when senior forward Martin Murphy passed the ball over a defender to sophomore forward Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler, who chipped it over Bates for UNC’s second goal. The Tar Heels led GSU 11-1 in shots with the Eagles’ only shot coming in the second minute of play.

Welcome to another edition of Tracking the Tar Heels. Let’s see what the Tar Heels have been up to: The North Carolina football team earned its most lopsided win in school history Saturday, taking down Idaho 66-0. In the process, the Tar Heels flashed a faster offensive tempo.
Though the North Carolina field hockey team leads Virginia Commonwealth 2-1 at the half, the Tar Heels are likely disappointed the lead is that slim.
During tailback Giovani Bernard’s two-game absence, redshirt freshman Romar Morris and junior A.J. Blue proved more than capable as replacements. And now, in the two games since Bernard’s return, they’ve become offensive fixtures. UNC offensive coordinator Blake Anderson said after practice Tuesday that the coaching staff was working on ways to incorporate both Morris and Blue into the offense, and he stayed true to his word.
Five different Tar Heels scored touchdowns in the first half against Idaho to lead North Carolina to a 45-0 halftime lead Saturday. The Tar Heels opened the scoring on a 36-yard flea flicker in which quarterback Bryn Renner handed the ball to Giovani Bernard, who pitched the ball back for Renner to throw to an open Sean Tapley. Bernard had two rushing touchdowns, including a 68-yard run that was the longest of his career. Freshman receiver Quinshad Davis caught the first touchdown of his career on a 35-yard throw from Renner. UNC blocked two punts in the first half, including tailback Romar Morris’ second blocked punt of the year.

The North Carolina field hockey team thought they would be in for a tough test today against Wake Forest in Henry Stadium.
At halftime, the grounds staff will usually activate the water cannons positioned around the field hockey field at Henry Stadium.
DURHAM — The North Carolina men’s soccer team is halfway to its fourth consecutive shutout as the Tar Heels are scoreless with Duke at halftime in Koskinen Stadium. The Tar Heels nearly broke the tie early with freshman Danny Garcia firing a shot off the woodwork in the 12th minute. Captain Jordan Gafa also drove a shot in the 31st minute that needed to be punched over the bar by Duke goalie James Belshaw. UNC dominated possession for long stretches of play in the first half, but Duke nearly netted a goal in the 33rd minute on a play that was eventually waved off due to a Duke handball. The Tar Heels and Blue Devils traded 16 combined fouls in the first half, and in the 38th minute Riley Wolfe earned a yellow card for a tackle of UNC’s Cameron Brown. Duke has not defeated the Tar Heels since 2006.
