The No. 3 North Carolina women’s lacrosse team beat Virginia 15-7 Saturday at Fetzer Field in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Kara Cannizzaro led the Tar Heels (14-5) with four goals, and Laura Zimmerman tacked on three goals and an assist. UNC committed 15 fouls in the first half alone and UVa (9-9) had seven, but the Cavaliers scored on just one of their five total free position shots during the game. North Carolina’s win marked the third time this season the Tar Heels have beaten the Cavaliers.
After leading No. 3 Notre Dame for almost 60 minutes, No. 12 North Carolina beat the Fighting Irish 9-8 in an overtime thriller Friday night at Fetzer Field. The Tar Heels (10-5) went into the fourth quarter leading the Fighting Irish (11-2) 8-4, but Notre Dame outshot UNC 19-3 in the final 15 minutes of the game.
We talked with Harrison Barnes at today’s pick-up basketball game on the Granville courts, and the freshman says he’s still deciding whether to enter the NBA draft or stay at UNC. His decision-making process has, of course, prompted wide speculation from many who claim they have insight into what he’ll do.
North Carolina freshman Harrison Barnes and sophomore John Henson both gave approximate dates for when they will announce whether they’ll stay in school or pursue their NBA career. Both Tar Heels were competing on UNC’s North Campus basketball courts Monday near Cobb Residence Hall with students in friendly five-on-five pick-up games. “I’ll have a decision by Saturday,” Henson said. For Barnes, he said he has yet to really process the information available to him and his decision. “It’ll probably be in at least a week, week and a half or so,” Barnes said.
