CHAMPAIGN, ILL – The North Carolina Tar Heels will be facing their first true road game of the young season. For Harrison Barnes, it is a homecoming of sorts. Barnes admitted after the College of Charleston game that he had been deluged with ticket requests from friends and family.

Former UNC wide receiver Greg Little issued a statement through the athletic department apologizing to his teammmates, coaches and fans. On Monday, Little was ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA for violations of NCAA agent benefits, preferential treatment and ethical conduct rules. He received approximately $4,952 in extra benefits that included trips to Washington, D.C., and Miami and a pair of diamond earrings. His full statement is below.
North Carolina softball pitchers Lori Spingola and Sara Buchholz combined to throw a perfect game in UNC’s 3-0 defeat of UNC-Greensboro Friday night at Anderson Stadium.
After a statement victory against No. 14 Florida State on Thursday, the North Carolina volleyball team reaffirmed its status as a serious candidate for the ACC championship with a definitive 3-0 (25-21 25-17 25-21) win against the Miami Hurricanes on Friday.
If you’re just now tuning in to the Rutgers-North Carolina football game, you haven’t missed much. UNC has already fumbled it, botched a punt and failed to move the sticks multiple times. But, after surviving the first quarter to be down 10-0, UNC found some offense. T.J. Yates has continued to move the ball efficiently and Johnny White has run the ball well. But, with less than a minute left in the first half, Jheranie Boyd fumbled, forfeiting the Tar Heels’ shots at timing down Rutgers’ 10-7 halftime lead.
North Carolina’s football program announced on Monday that the game against East Carolina would be at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 2nd. The game is the next home contest for the Tar Heels, and also the ensuing week after this Saturday’s game against Rutgers. The press release says that the game will be streamed by espn3.com.
The North Carolina Tar Heels took on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in their second match of the Tar Heel Classic. North Carolina won in three sets.
In their second home tournament of the year, the North Carolina women’s volleyball team delivered a swift kick to Ball State, defeating them 3-1. Ball State came into the tournament with an impressive 8-1 record and a pension for being a hard-hitting team with a solid defense.
North Carolina dominated offensive play in the game against Middle Tennessee State University which ended 7-1.
No new developments came out of Butch Davis’ media address Thursday before practice, just two days before North Carolina’s home opener against Georgia Tech. Davis said no players have been cleared since running back Shaun Draughn was ruled eligible for competition on Monday. He also said that players who are ineligible to play will not dress out on the sidelines.

North Carolina began its season opener against LSU as if the Tar Heels didn’t need the 13 ineligible players. Halfway through the second half, it was apparent they did. In a span of five minutes and 38 seconds, the Tigers scored 23 points to take a 30-10 lead against UNC in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.
The North Carolina men’s soccer team opened its 2010 campaign at Fetzer Field just as it concluded the 2009 season in the NCAA semifinals in Cary — with a loss to the Akron Zips. Though No. 1 Akron needed penalty kicks to defeat the Tar Heels in last year’s College Cup, tonight’s result was not left in doubt nearly as long, as the Zips coasted to a 3-0 victory.
The North Carolina men’s soccer team trails No. 1 Akron 2-0 at the half at Fetzer Field. The No. 4 Tar Heels have played well in the midfield and have developed a few scoring chances. They’re outshooting Akron 6-3, and have four shots on goal.
Erskine Bowles, the president of the UNC-system, wrote an e-mail to the Board of Governors reassuring them that UNC-Chapel Hill is doing “everything humanly possible to get to the bottom of this matter.”
North Carolina defensive end Robert Quinn said Tuesday that he is not involved with the possible academic misconduct between student-athletes and a former UNC mentor who was also employed by the Butch Davis family. “I mean, I’ve worked with her, but I don’t have anything to do with that,” Quinn said.
