Review: Space Team is the best kind of stressful

I’ve always wanted to fly a spaceship. I’m claustrophobic and sincerely terrified of aliens, so actual space travel isn’t really an option for me. Luckily, someone had the good sense to make Space Team

In terms of games you can play on your phone, it’s pretty much as good as it gets. You team up with other friends via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and embark on a cooperative voyage through the universe.

The game gives you a control panel to pilot your ship. As you play, directions will appear at the top of your screen, telling you to do everything from “engage orbital regulator” to “dry laundry.”

Here’s the catch: you won’t be receiving commands for your own control panel. As you receive instructions, you have to call them out, hoping that one of your friends has the control on their panel. As you shout directions, you also have to listen for your friends telling you to hit your own controls. 99 percent of games end in screaming.

Threats of slime, mislabeled instruments, broken dimension regulators, asteroids, and wormholes keep the game escalating. The game can be played with up to four players, but keep in mind that it only gets more difficult the more people you have.

All around, a great way to stave off boredom and make friends. Or lose them. It depends on how emotionally invested you are.

Space Team is available for free on iTunes and the Google Play Store.
