'Paigeturner' Tuesday: 'If You're Lucky' inconsistently thrilling

Editor-in-chief Paige Ladisic continues #PageturnerTuesday with “If You’re Lucky," a young adult thriller by Yvonne Prinz due in stores this October. But it isn’t as thrilling throughout the entire book as it is for roughly 20 pages near the end, and that made it just an okay read.

#tbt: Local women make rock on their own

Every week, Medium will post a story or review from the vault, #tbt style. Around Town: 'Crissybaby Forever' an honest success

Christopher Owens, formerly of the band Girls, has gone solo — and, as a result, his third album Chrissybaby Forever, released May 27, sounds pretty damn good. As part of his album tour, Owens will be performing at Cat’s Cradle Back Room on Thursday.

#tbt: Q&A with Ruban Nielson of Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Every week, Medium will post a story or review from the vault, #tbt style. This week, a Q&A with Unknown Mortal Orchestra, who will be returning to perform at Cat's Cradle this Sunday. This Q&A was originally published on Oct. 2, 2013 and has been edited for clarity.

Perspective: Sexist Superhero Standoff

My dad took me to see “Spider-Man” the first week of its release in 2002. I walked out of the theater feeling a little dazed; my seven-year-old self had never seen that much action, apart from the minuscule amount in films like “Mulan” and “Hercules.” It was exciting, adventurous and seemed so real. I wanted to see the movie again, because it was that movie that made me decide I was a comic book film fan.

New Dessen novel more mature, still great

“Saint Anything,” the 12th book of Chapel Hill author and UNC 1993 graduate Sarah Dessen, is dedicated: “to all the invisible girls and for my readers, for seeing me.” With about 130 people, primarily women ranging from 14-years-old to early 60s, attending her book reading at Flyleaf Books May 11 and with “Saint Anything” listed on the New York Times Young Adult Bestseller list in its fourth week, certainly plenty of readers see Dessen.

Live & Local: Cubed falls flat

While Cubed is a good album, it would be more aptly named as Square, as it is missing a certain dimension of wow-factor. While The Color Exchange, an alternative rock band formerly known as Clockwork Kids, creates a harmonic unity, it is nothing we haven’t heard before.

Playlist: Workout

Need to get #pumped #up? Look no further. This playlist will have you amped to step on that treadmill... maybe. Anyway, whether you're pre-gaming or working out it'll get you pumped up. Disclaimer: there's a lot of Beyonce.
