Tonight’s primaries have so far proved to be another successful night for Tea Party candidates.
In Delaware, Tea Party favorite Christine O’Donnell won the bid for the Senate seat once held by Vice President Joe Biden, and in New York, another Tea-Party-backed candidate Carl Paladino, defeated former Congressman Rick Lazio.
In both races, the candidates preferred by the Republican Party lost, which could hurt their chances of defeating the Democratic candidate in the general elections.
Republicans had been counting on picking up the senate seats in Delware to gain the majority, but O’Donnell’s victory might make that difficult.
The GOP now has to win all six of the most rigorously contested Senate races — without losing any seats currently held by the party — in order to seize power, McClatchy Information Services reported.
Results in New Hampshire aren’t in yet, but the New York Times is reporting Ovide Lamontagne to be 3 points ahead of Sarah Palin-endorsed former state Attorney General Kelly Ayotte.
