Sen. Richard Burr’s once narrow lead is beginning to open up, new polling finds. After Burr released the race’s first campaign-funded ad, “Front Porch”, the incumbent’s lead has more than doubled in every poll.
In the most recent poll conducted by SurveyUSA, Burr collected 58 percent of the vote while his opponent, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, collected 34 percent.
In the survey of 582 likely voters, Burr had nearly complete support of his party — 92 percent of Republicans said they plan to vote for him while only 65 percent of Democrats said they plan to vote for Marshall.
Independent voters also favored Burr, with 51 percent planning to vote for him and 29 percent for Marshall.
Burr’s lead jumped a full 14 percent since the last SurveyUSA poll in early July, which had Burr leading Marshall 46 percent to 36 percent
