When students return from winter break, two famous faces will join them on campus.
Actor Danny Glover and former Mexican president Vicente Fox will deliver lectures on campus in late January.
Glover will deliver the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Lecture on Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall, following a 6:30 p.m. candlelight vigil at the Old Well, University officials announced today.
Glover will discuss King's influence on his own social activism, as the actor in films such as "Lethal Weapon" and "The Color Purple" has been involved in a variety of causes promoting racial justice, health care and education.
His address is part of the 29th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration, and beginning Jan. 12, students can pick up two free tickets at Memorial Hall with a valid One Card.
Former Mexican President Vicente Fox will deliver the 2010 Witherspoon Address at the Kenan-Flagler Business School in Koury Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 25.
Fox's election to the presidency in 2000 held historical significance, marking the first time a member of the opposition party in Mexico had held the position since 1910. He served as president of Mexico for six years.
The lecture is free and open to the public, and those interested in attending should call 919-843-7787 to reserve a space.
